Paint Your Own Pottery Guide
Follow these steps for best results.
Step 1
Please write your name legibly at the bottom of your piece.
Step 4
Mix colours to your liking in order to bring your vision to life.
(Color theory reference below.)
The underglaze that you see right now will look much more vibrant after the glaze firing!
Step 2
Use a pencil to sketch your design if desired. No need to worry about erasing lines or smudges, they will burn off during firing and disappear.
Step 5
For full coverage apply up to 3 coats of underglaze. Allow coats to dry between applications. (30 sec to 1 min tend to suffice - the thicker the layer the longer it will take to dry.)
Step 3
Pick your colour and apply a couple of drops of underglaze (pottery paint) to the pallet provided. Add more colour to the pallet as needed.
Step 6
3, 2, 1... start with your painting!

Do not paint the bottom of your piece. Underglaze can cause your piece to stick to the kiln shelf and brake.
Excessive layers of paint can cause bubbling, cracks, or holes on the glaze which could trap bacteria and mold. For both aesthetic and safety reasons, please keep your layers within the recommended limit.
Underglaze if ready for use. There’s no need to mix it with water, unless you wish to accomplish a watercolour effect.
Color theory also applies to mixing underglaze.
